On Saturday, August 17th 2109 over 7 locally operated small businesses in the Home Services and Construction industry joined Electrician On Call's Tools & Technology Trailblazers (also known as T3) outreach program through the #EOCares Community Outreach division to kick-off a 1/2 day workshop in the historic Douglass Community in Plano, Texas in collaboration with Douglass Visions. The Tools & Technology Trailblazers program bridges the gap between construction and technology using fun activities through a day of exploration, safety and hands-on activities to understand the trades and develop a deep appreciation for the industry to trigger generational changes in underserved communities. Participants are encouraged to preserve, repair, maintain and rebuild their communities.
Led by Irum Jones, the Founder of Tool & Technology Trailblazers and current Chief Operating Officer of Electrician On Call, she guides over 30 program participants into an amazing adventure.
Participants started the day with 'The Breakfast of Champions' where special guests and local community leaders provided inspirational messages to kick-off the day. While munching on breakfast provided by local non-profit The Source of Hope, participants decorated their OSHA grade safety hardhats.
Participants spent the morning visiting over 8 trade booths to learn about safety, required skills, tools and the technology used on the field. Highlights including a clear water system constructed by GoProPlumbing, leveling activities by Design Remodel Pros and understanding the parts of a control board for major appliances provided by DC Appliances.
Kids enjoyed the day learning about construction project management, design concepts and unique ways to achieve a common goal by focusing on individual contributions towards a project and group collaboration.
Just when you thought the excitement couldn't be beat - the #TouchTheTruck exhibit was a great hit. Kids visited each truck to learn about the tools and technology utilized by each participating company! The day ended with a Mindfulness Matters exercise by non-profit Human Embrace focusing on calmness tactics to carry kids through the year.
Electrician On Call has committed to providing the Tools & Technology Trailblazers workshop at no-cost to the Douglass Community. The workshop cost per participant ranges from $295 - $395, with classes sizes up to 40 per session.
